Lowen Safaris & Tours was founded by Joseph Omben Mzava, a Tanzanian tourism professional with a deep connection to the country, its people, wildlife, and landscapes.

Joseph’s journey in tourism began long before Lowen Safaris was established. After studying tourism, he spent several years working with established safari companies, gaining experience in safari operations, guest relations, guiding, itinerary planning, and the realities of running safaris across Tanzania.

In 2021, he decided to take the next step and build something of his own — a safari company based on the way he believed guests should experience Tanzania: personally, honestly, safely, and with genuine local expertise.

That vision became Lowen Safaris & Tours.

Today, Joseph remains closely involved in the company and, whenever possible, personally welcomes and assists guests from the moment they arrive in Tanzania. For him, a safari is not simply about taking someone to see the Big Five. It is about understanding what each traveler hopes to experience and making sure they feel cared for throughout their journey.

Our Story

From a Personal Dream to a Growing Tanzanian Safari Company

Lowen Safaris & Tours was born from a simple idea: Tanzania should be experienced through the eyes of people who truly know and love it.

We started small, learning from every guest, every journey, and every challenge along the way. Rather than trying to become the biggest safari company overnight, our focus has always been on building something sustainable — one guest, one partnership, and one unforgettable journey at a time.

From the vast plains of the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater to the mountains of Kilimanjaro and the beaches of Zanzibar, we have continued to grow our knowledge, our team, and our network across Tanzania.

What makes our story special is not simply where we are today, but how closely we remain connected to the journeys we create.

We listen to our guests. We adapt when plans change. We pay attention to the small details. And when something unexpected happens, we are there to help.

Over time, Lowen has grown from a young local safari company into a Tanzanian destination management company serving travelers and international travel partners from different parts of the world.

But our most important goal has remained the same:

To welcome every guest as a traveler, not just a booking.
